Clone an Event

If you run the same match every month (or every year), you do not have to build it from scratch each time. Cloning creates a new event from an existing one, with its own name and dates, and copies over the parts you choose: matches, aggregates, entry form, pricing options, add-ons and more.

The original event is never changed.

Steps to Clone an Event

1. Go to Manage Club and click on Upcoming Events or Past Events, depending on the event you want to copy.
2. Select your club if you manage multiple clubs.
3. Click the Clone button (copy icon) on the event tile. A popup will appear.
4. Enter the Event Name for the new event. It starts with the name of the original event, so you will usually just change the month or year.
   • Below the name you will see the event's web address (for example targetscore.com/monthly-match-october). It follows the name as you type. Click the pencil icon if you want to choose your own, and click Done when finished. If an address is already in use, you will be offered the nearest free one.
5. Select the Event Start Date.
   • If the original event ran over several days, the Event End Date is filled in for you with the same number of days. It moves along when you change the start date.
   • For a single-day event, click Multi-day event? if the new event should run over more than one day.
6. Check the Entries Start Date and Entries End Date. If the original event had entry dates, they are filled in for you, moved by the same number of days as the event. You can change them, remove them with Remove, or add them with Add Entry Dates.
7. Under Also clone the following, tick what you want to copy (see below). Matches, pricing options and add-ons are already ticked. Use Select all to copy everything.
8. Leave Hide this event temporarily ticked if you want to review the new event before anyone can see it. Untick it to publish the event right away.
9. Click the blue Clone Event button.

When the clone is ready, it becomes your active event and its Event Dashboard opens, so you can review the matches, pricing options and other settings right away. (A simple event opens its Edit Event page instead.) You will also find the new event in your Upcoming Events, or in Past Events if you picked a date in the past.

tip

For a monthly match, cloning last month's event with Select all ticked and only changing the name and start date is usually all you need.

What You Can Clone

Only the sections the original event actually has are shown. For example, if the original event has no add-ons, you will not see Clone Add-Ons?. Clone Matches?, Clone Pricing Options? and Clone Add-Ons? are ticked by default, because a recurring match almost always keeps its schedule and prices. Everything else is your choice. The number on each option shows how many items will be copied.

Option	What is copied
Clone Matches?	All matches with their settings (type, range, distance, shots, sighters, target face, notes). Match dates move with the event, see How Dates Are Moved.
Clone Aggregates?	The aggregates you created, and the auto-created ones you edited. Aggregates that are limited to certain matches are pointed at the new event's matches. If an aggregate is limited to a participant group, that group is copied too, without members. The auto-created aggregates (Grand, Day, one per match) are not copied: they are rebuilt from the new event's matches, so you never end up with duplicates. One you deleted on the original event stays deleted, and one you featured stays featured.
Clone Entry Form?	Your custom entry form, including the options and any fees on them.
Clone Pricing Options?	Your entry fee options with their amounts, taxes and early-bird dates. Early-bird dates move with the event.
Clone Add-Ons?	Your add-ons (for example a banquet ticket) with their price, taxes, quantity limits and whether they are active.

If you do not clone the pricing options, the new event starts with a single free "Regular Entry" option, the same as a brand-new event.

Always Copied

These settings always come along, because they describe how you run the event: location, overview, confirmation email, contact email, capacity and waitlist settings, donation setting, notification settings, what is shown to the public (participants, scores, matches, shot data), and which of your club's divisions, participant categories and payment gateways are used for the event.

Divisions, categories and payment gateways themselves belong to your club, not to a single event, so there is nothing to clone: every event of your club shares them.

Never Copied

• Participants, their scores, payments and squadding. Athletes enter the new event themselves. With the entry form, pricing options and add-ons cloned, entering takes them the same few clicks as last time.
• Participant groups, as an option of their own. A group is a selection of participants, so without participants there is nothing to copy. The one exception is a group that one of your aggregates is limited to: it is copied together with the aggregates (see above), so your prize list keeps working.
• Teams. A team is made of its members, and captains register their teams for each event. Copying empty teams would only leave you with duplicates once the real teams are registered. See Manage Team Matches.
• The event's web address. The new event gets its own, based on the new name, and you can change it in the popup.

Groups that are copied with your aggregates start without members. Once athletes have entered the new event, go to Manage Event > Groups, click edit on the group, select its members and save.

How Dates Are Moved

Everything with a date moves by the same number of days as the event itself, and keeps its time of day.

For example, if the original event started on Saturday 12 September and the new one starts on Saturday 10 October (28 days later):

• A match scheduled for 12 September at 9:00 AM is now on 10 October at 9:00 AM.
• An early-bird price that ended on 1 September now ends on 29 September.
• The entry dates shown in the popup are moved the same way, and you can still change them before cloning.

Times are kept in your club's time zone, so a 9:00 AM match stays a 9:00 AM match even when the clocks change between the two dates.

Things to Check After Cloning

Sometimes a clone cannot carry everything over. When that happens, the event is still created and a message tells you exactly what needs attention:

Match criteria were removed from aggregates	You cloned aggregates without cloning matches, so aggregates limited to certain matches lost that limit.	Clone again with Clone Matches? ticked, or add matches and edit the aggregates.
Groups were copied for your aggregates and have no members yet	An aggregate is limited to a participant group, so the group was copied, empty.	Add the members once athletes have entered (Manage Event > Groups).
Aggregates referred to matches or groups that no longer exist	The original aggregate pointed at a match or group that had already been deleted.	Review the listed aggregates.
A tax that is no longer active was not applied	A pricing option or add-on used a tax your club has since switched off.	Review the taxes on the listed items.
Matches are scheduled outside the new event dates	The new event is shorter than the original, so a later match falls after the new end date.	Update the match dates under Matches, or edit the event dates.

While you are ticking options, the popup also warns you when you select aggregates without the matches they depend on, so you can fix it before cloning.

Keep Hide this event temporarily ticked, review the matches and pricing options of the new event, then make it visible from the Edit Event page.

Cloning a Simple Event

Simple (calendar-style) events have no matches, entry form or aggregates, so the popup only asks for the name and dates. The entry fee, if the event has one, is copied automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I clone an event from a previous year? Yes. Open Past Events, pick the year, and click Clone on the event.

Will athletes who entered the original event be entered into the new one? No. Entries, payments and scores belong to the original event and are never copied.

I use Stripe. Will payments for the new event be mixed up with the original? No. The new event gets its own prices in Stripe. Changing or removing a price on one event does not affect the other.

I cloned without an option by mistake. Can I add it afterwards? Cloning always creates a new event; it cannot add to an existing one. If the new event has no entries yet, the simplest fix is to remove it and clone again with the right options ticked.
