Leagues (Beta)

Beta

Leagues are new. They work end to end, but we are still refining them with the clubs that use them. Tell us what works and what doesn't at support@targetscore.com.

A league is a shoot that repeats over a season — once a month through the summer, once a week over the winter, sometimes crossing into the next year — with standings that count each shooter's best rounds.

In TargetScore a league is one event, and every match of that event is a round on its own date. That is how many clubs already ran their leagues, with one long event and a match per month. A league makes that setup quick and fixes how it looks:

  • Shooters enter once for the whole season. A shooter who misses a round just has no score for it.
  • Scores are entered round by round, in the usual score entry, on that round's match.
  • The standings are worked out for you, counting each shooter's best rounds.
  • Your calendar shows a shoot on each round's date, not a bar across the whole season.

Create a league

  1. From your club's Leagues page (on the Club dashboard), choose Create League. You can also pick League in the switch at the top of the Create Event page, and anything you had typed there (such as the name and date) comes with you.

  2. League. Give it a name and choose how often it runs:

    • Monthly rounds repeat on either the same day of the month (the 15th every month; a 31st falls back to the month's last day) or the same weekday (the 2nd Saturday every month).
    • Weekly rounds repeat every seven days.
    • Custom rounds are dated one at a time.

Then pick the first round's date and start time, how many rounds the season has, and the standings rule (see below). The wizard lists every round's date so you can check them against your calendar.

  3. Event. The normal event form, pre-filled with the season's dates. Fill in what the season needs: discipline, divisions, entry fee, entry form, add-ons. Entries stay open until the last round by default, so people can join mid-season.

  4. Rounds. Set up the match every round shoots: distance, shots, sighters, target face and range. You can also set an optional fee per round (see Paying per round).

TargetScore then creates one match per round, named after its date: "Nov 2026" for a monthly league, "14 Nov 2026" for a weekly one. Rename a round like any match.

Already running a season as one event with a match per month? Open that event's dashboard and choose Make this a league. Your existing matches become the rounds as they are, and the standings appear straight away.

Manage the season

The league's page (from the event dashboard) lists every round with its date, how many shooters have scores, and its fee.

  • Enter scores opens score entry for that round.
  • Add round adds the next round on the league's schedule. It copies the latest round's match, start time and fee. For a custom league, you choose the date.
  • Edit a round to move its date or change its match. Delete a round you are cancelling; a round that already has scores asks you to confirm first.
  • Rules changes how often the league runs and the standings rule. The standings recalculate straight away.
  • Stop being a league turns it back into an ordinary event. Its matches and scores stay.

Rounds shot in strings

Many leagues shoot each round as several strings or series: three strings for Sporting Rifle Prone, six series for ISSF Prone, or Prone, Kneeling and Standing for 3-Position. Set this up in the league's round format:

  • Shots per round is the number of strings, for example 3 or 6. Each box takes one string's total, such as 195.9 or 102.1, and the round total adds them up using the discipline's scoring system.
  • Name each shot labels the boxes, for example "PR #1, PR #2, PR #3", "String 1 … 6" or "Prone, Kneeling, Standing".

Score entry shows the names on the boxes, and each round's own result has one column per string. The League Standings show only each round's total.

To change the format of the whole season, use Round format on the league's page and choose Apply to all rounds. Rounds that already have scores keep their format.

One league per round format

Every match of an event is shot by every shooter in it, so divisions that shoot a different round format, such as Sporting Rifle Prone with 3 strings and ISSF Prone with 6 series, each need their own league. Divisions that shoot the same format can share one, for example ISSF Prone Iron Sights and Any Sights.

To set up the next one quickly, choose Copy for another division on the league's page. Give it a name, discipline and round format. TargetScore copies the league with the same round dates, entry form, fees and rules.

Standings

The standings are the event's first result, League Standings, on the results page. The rule is best X of N: each shooter's best X rounds count towards their total, as in a "best 3 of 6" league. If you leave it blank, every round counts.

  • The counted rounds are highlighted in green, the same way best scores are elsewhere in TargetScore.
  • Rounds a shooter missed show as empty and cost them nothing while they still have enough rounds to count.
  • Ties and countback work exactly as on any event's results.
  • Each round also has its own result, so you can see who won that night.

Tables by classification and category

Inside each division, the standings are split into separate tables, the way clubs print their season results:

  1. One table per classification (MA, SS, MM…). The division's top shooter is marked Winner in their classification's table, and the next shooter in that classification is 1st.
  2. One table per age category (Intermediate Junior, Junior, Veteran…).
  3. One table per participant category (Police, Military, Cadet…).

A shooter appears once in their classification's table, and again in each age or participant category they belong to. Each table is placed on its own.

To combine classifications into one table, for example "EX + TE", open the league's page, tick the tables under Standings tables, and choose Merge selected. You can rename the merged table, split it again, or reset to one table per classification.

This works for any aggregate, not only leagues: turn on Separate tables for classifications and categories when you create or edit an aggregate. Your league can have any other aggregates too, as on any event.

remarque

A round is one match. Because "best X" picks a shooter's best matches at each distance, keep every round at the same distance and to one match.

Paying per round

If your club charges per shoot rather than per season, set a fee per round when you create the league. Each round is then sold as an add-on, for example "Nov 2026 round", and shooters tick the rounds they want to pay for when they enter. You can also set the entry fee itself to $0.

  • A round can't be bought once its day is over. Shooters can still pay on the morning of the shoot.
  • Your managers can still add a past round to someone's entry, for example for a walk-in who paid at the range.
  • The league's page shows how many shooters have paid for each round.
info

A shooter can't yet add more rounds to their entry after they have paid. Until that arrives, collect for extra rounds at the range and record the payment on their entry.

Where shooters see it

  • On your club's calendar, the league appears on each round's date, not as one long bar across the season.
  • On event lists and your club website, the card shows the next round, for example "League · next round 14 Nov 2026". A league stays in the upcoming list until its last round.
  • On the event page, shooters enter once and see every round.
  • On the results page, League Standings comes first, followed by each round's own result.
