Private Events

A private event is an event that is hidden from the public lists on Target Score. People can only reach it if you give them the link.

Use it for a members-only match, a training day, a club championship you do not want to advertise, or any event whose results should stay within the club.

One feature, one name

The name of the feature is private event, and an event that uses it carries a Private label. Where the app asks you to switch it on, it says what happens instead: "Hide my event" or "Hidden from public". They all mean the event is private. See Other words you will see in the app.

What private means

Private event
Shown in public listsNo
Can be opened with the linkYes, by anyone who has the link
RegistrationWorks as normal for anyone who has the link
ResultsOpen as normal for anyone who has the link
Needs a login to openNo

Private does not mean locked. It means not advertised. Anyone you send the link to can open the event, register and read the results, so share the link only with the people you want there.

Make an event private

You can make an event private when you create it, or at any time afterwards.

When you create the event

  • Full event: under Final options, tick Hide my event & results from public listings, then click Create.
  • Simple event (the short form and the Club Calendar pop-up): tick Hide Event from Public, then click Create Event.

See Create an Event for the rest of the form.

On an event that already exists

  1. Go to Manage Club and open Upcoming Events or Past Events.
  2. Click Edit on the event.
  3. Tick the hide option and save.

Instead of deleting an event

When you click Remove on an event that already has scores, Target Score asks whether you want to delete it or click Hide Event. Hide Event makes the event private and keeps every score. Choose it when you want the event out of public view without losing its results.

Share a private event

Because the event is not listed, you have to hand out the link yourself.

  1. Go to Manage Club and open Upcoming Events or Past Events.
  2. Find the event and click the copy link button beside its name.
  3. Send the link to your members by email, in a group chat or on your own website.

The link never changes, including when you later make the event public.

Where a private event is hidden

A private event does not appear in:

  • The public Events page.
  • The public Results page.
  • The recent results shown on the dashboard.
  • The upcoming events that people see from clubs they follow.
  • Your club's public profile page.
  • Your club's microsite.
  • The calendar you embed on your own website, and the WordPress calendar plugin.
  • An athlete's analytics. Scores shot in a private event are not counted in their statistics.

Where you can still find it

WhoWhere
Club owners and managersManage Club > Upcoming Events and Past Events, where it carries a Private label. Also on the Results page, see below.
Athletes who enteredUnder Your Upcoming Events on the dashboard, and in the lists of their own events on their profile. Also on the Results page, see below.
Anyone elseOnly through the link.

Find a private event's results

You do not have to keep the link to get back to the results of your own private event.

When you are signed in, the Results page also lists the private events that are yours. They appear in the normal list of events for the club, in date order, and are clearly marked:

  • a Hidden from public label,
  • a dashed border,
  • a light grey background.

That marking means only you and the other people involved can see the event there. The public, and anyone who is signed out, does not see it on the Results page at all.

You see a private event on the Results page when all of these are true:

  • You are signed in.
  • You are an owner or manager of the club that runs the event, or you entered the event as an athlete.
  • The event has started and at least one score has been entered.
  • Stats is switched on for the event.

If your club has results only in private events, your club is added to the list of clubs on the Results page for you, with the same Hidden from public marking.

For athletes

Your entry has to be linked to your own Target Score profile, and it must not be withdrawn, cancelled, rejected or refunded. If the organizer added you by hand without your email address, ask them to link the entry to your profile.

Other words you will see in the app

These all refer to the same feature.

Private, draft or published

An event is always in one of three states.

StateIn public listsOpens with the linkWho it is for
DraftNoOnly for your club's owners and managersAn event you are still setting up.
PrivateNoYes, for anyoneAn event that is ready, but only for the people you invite.
PublishedYesYes, for anyoneAn event open to everybody.

A private event and a draft are both out of the public lists, but they are not the same. A private event is finished and opens for anyone who has the link. A draft opens only for your club's owners and managers. A cloned event starts as a draft, not as a private event.

Make a private event public

  1. Go to Manage Club and open Upcoming Events or Past Events.
  2. Click Edit on the event.
  3. Untick the hide option and save.

The event is published straight away. It appears in the public lists, its results appear on the public Results page, and its scores start counting in athletes' analytics. The link stays the same.

Good to know

  • A private event is not the same as a private profile. An athlete can keep their own profile private under Privacy. That setting is about the athlete, not about the event.
  • Registration, payments, waivers, squadding and scoring work exactly the same on a private event. The setting only changes where the event is listed.
